What is the Battle Tracker?
The Battle Tracker is an initiative tracker for D&D 5e combat. You enter player characters and monsters with hit points, armour class and initiative modifier, or pull monsters from the searchable monster library and open their stat block. The tracker rolls initiative, counts rounds and turns, applies damage and healing, and tracks conditions with an optional duration in rounds as well as death saves. A combat log records what happened, and “Undo” takes back the last step. The fight lives in your browser and survives a reload.
How it works
- Add combatants: player or monster with name, max HP, AC, initiative modifier and count — or pick a monster from the library. Regular party members are set up once under “Party”.
- Click “Start combat”. Initiative you leave empty is rolled at the start, and the order is set.
- Move through the round with “Next turn”, enter damage or healing and add conditions.
- Fix mistakes with “Undo” (key Z) and finish with “End combat”.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose my fight when I reload the page?
No. Fight, party and saved encounters are kept in your browser's local storage — on this device, in this browser, without an account. Clearing the browser data also clears the fight.
Does the Battle Tracker work offline?
Yes. On your first visit the site stores the tracker on your device, after that it opens without a connection. Stat blocks you have never opened before still need the network.
Which rules does the tracker follow?
The 2024 rules from the SRD 5.2.1: its conditions plus “Concentrating” as a reminder, and XP by challenge rating for encounters you save in the bestiary's encounter builder.
Is the Battle Tracker free?
No. It is free and needs no account or sign-in.
