What is the traps generator?
The traps generator builds traps for D&D 5e that fit your party. You choose difficulty, party level from 1 to 20, environment, type (mechanical, magical or hybrid), lethality and a style such as cult, drow or undead. The trap comes with core values — check and DC to detect and to disable it, damage with a saving throw and its DC — plus origin, effect, counterplay, reset notes and a treasure or clue. DCs and damage grow with the party level. Secondary effect, alarm and complication can be switched on or off one by one.
How it works
- Set difficulty and party level.
- Narrow environment, type, lethality and style — or leave them on “Any”.
- Switch secondary effect, alarm and complication on or off, then click “Generate Trap”.
- “Re-Roll” keeps your settings and the rolled type and refreshes details and DCs.
Frequently asked questions
Is the traps generator free, and do I need an account?
It is free and works without an account or sign-in. You open the page and start rolling.
How do the DCs scale?
In four tiers by party level: 1–4, 5–10, 11–16 and 17–20. Each tier raises the base DC and the damage dice. On top of that, difficulty moves the DCs two points down or up, and lethality removes or adds a damage die.
Can my players get out of the trap?
Every trap lists its counterplay right in the output, so you always have a way out in front of you.
Are my traps saved?
The last 20 results of each generator stay in your browser's local storage under “Recently generated” until you clear the history. Nothing is sent to an account. To keep a result elsewhere, “Copy” puts it on your clipboard as plain text.
