What is the NPC generator?
The NSC generator is an NPC generator for D&D 5e that hands you a playable side character in seconds. You choose gender, where the party meets them (city, village, on the road, dungeon or anywhere), race and job — or let a weighted roll decide race and job. You get a character with a name, a first impression, personality, motive, secret and a hook that ties them to your group; extras are optional. Copy the result as text, send it straight into the Battle Tracker or open it as a monster card.
How it works
- Pick gender, location, race and job. Race and job can stay on “Random (weighted)”.
- Use the “Include Extras” and “Include Name” switches to decide what the character contains.
- Click “Generate NPC”. “Re-Roll” keeps race, gender and job and refreshes everything else.
- Copy the result, add it to the Battle Tracker with “Into the tracker” or open it “As a monster card”.
Frequently asked questions
Is the NPC generator free, and do I need an account?
It is free and works without an account or sign-in. You open the page and start rolling.
Are my NPCs saved?
The last 20 results of each generator stay in your browser's local storage under “Recently generated” until you clear the history. Nothing is sent to an account. To keep a result elsewhere, “Copy” puts it on your clipboard as plain text.
What stats does an NPC get in the Battle Tracker?
The stat block of the Commoner from the SRD — a human without a class — with your NPC's name on the row. The monster card is built from the same stat block, with personality, motive and secret as traits.
Does the NPC generator work offline?
No. The results are rolled on the server from large tables that would be too heavy for the browser, so generating needs an internet connection.
