Living Weapon (Bonded Symbiote), Very Rare (Requires Bonding; see Chapter 5)
Wakethorn begins as a single black thorn pressed to the back of the wielder's wrist. Bonded like any symbiote — one bond slot, no attunement — it grows a living blade that answers to the hand and hungers, quietly, for use. It matures as its bearer does, its stages gated by character level. Its Gifts cost Communion Points and may be paid by Overreach at the usual risk.
Wakethorn's Maturity
| Level | Stage | Growth |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Seedling | Boon: As a Bonus Action you grow or dismiss a magic thorn-blade (Finesse; 1d6 Slashing; Vex mastery). It can't be disarmed or sundered while you live. |
| 5th | Sapling | The blade's damage rises to 1d8. You gain the Gift Draining Edge (1 CP): once on your turn, deal an extra 2d6 Slashing on a hit and regain that many Hit Points. |
| 11th | Bramble | The blade's damage rises to 1d10 and gains Reach. You gain the Gift Reaping Bramble (2 CP): thorns lash all creatures of your choice within 10 feet (Symbiote DC Dexterity save, 3d8 Slashing, half on a success). |
| 17th | Thornfield | You gain the Gift Thornfield (3 CP): for 1 minute, difficult bramble fills a 15-foot Emanation around you and the blade scores an extra 1d8 on every hit. |
