Erasure of the Corrected Atlas

Out of lot 77. A scraped place about three feet across that moves. The binder did not do it, whatever the red ink says: the scrapings are of different years and different water-marks, and in six sheets the same city is gone. Say Kannewerd aloud in the Long Room and watch which of them looks up.

Traits

Where the Ink Was Taken Off. It appears as a scraped patch travelling across whatever surface it crosses — plaster, water, a coat, a face — and the surface is unharmed once it has passed. It can move through 1 foot of nonmagical stone, wood or plaster in a round, and the material closes behind it without a mark.

Roused by a Name. It is dormant, and lies in the gutter of the third sheet, until the name Kannewerd is spoken aloud within 300 feet. It then wakes and goes to the speaker by the shortest line available to it, through walls if that is shorter.

Actions

Multiattack. It makes two Scrape attacks.

Scrape. Melee Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft. Hit: 13 (3d6 + 4) force damage.

Efface (Recharge 5–6). It chooses a place no larger than a street, a hamlet, a ship or a room, within 1 mile, that it has crossed. The place loses its name. No creature can say the name, write it, or read it; every chart, sign, bill of lading and direction that bore it shows a scraped patch. Those who knew the place still know that it exists and cannot say what it is called, and finding it again requires a DC 18 Wisdom (Survival) check for each hour of travel. The effect ends if a creature who never heard the old name is brought to the place and gives it a new one. Casting Reversion from lot 70 on a paper that bore the name does not answer, and has been tried on lot 77 by the cartographer himself, because in that book it is not the ink that is missing.
