Eustach Corvisser, Senior Partner

Senior partner of this house, seventy-one, forty-four years in the trade. He acted for the deceased at sales in this city and at three sales abroad from 1608, upon the usual commission, and the accounts of that agency are with the house and are not lodged with the sale. He entered the certificate admitted by the Court of Wards in Sprokkel 1636 and is named in the codicil at lot 86 as an executor. He has not sat in the Long Room since 1633. His signature sits there instead, and it is enough.

Traits

The Empty Chair. His written word binds this house whether he is present or not. Any undertaking he has signed is enforced by the offices of the city against the house, and against him only after the house has been exhausted, which has not yet happened.

Spellcasting. He casts the following spells, using Intelligence as the spellcasting ability (spell save DC 15). 1/day each: Lien, Mark of Custody.

Actions

The House's Bond. Faced with a demand he cannot refuse, Corvisser passes the obligation to an officer of the city instead of discharging it. The demanding creature must succeed on a DC 15 Charisma saving throw or find its business now lies with the Waterbailiff, the Court of Wards, or the Sworn Weighers, and not with this house. The obligation is real, it is now somebody else's, and it moves at the speed of an office.

Cane. Melee Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft. Hit: 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage. He has struck a porter with it once, in 1629, and paid him four marks not to say so.

Reactions

Refer to Counsel. When a creature would compel him to answer a question of title, ownership, or account, he answers with a form of words settled by counsel. The creature learns nothing false and nothing new, and cannot press the same question again in the same conversation.
