Level 4 Necromancy ()
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a vessel of water taken from the place of the death, which the spell consumes)
Duration: 10 minutes
You touch the corpse of a creature that died in water, or an object that was upon that creature's body when the body entered the water, and put up to three questions to it. It answers in words heard as though spoken under water; every creature present understands the answers, whatever language it speaks.
The subject answers out of what it knew in life and no further. It cannot lie, and it can be silent. It knows the hour and the place of its own death exactly, and it cannot withhold those two answers, whatever else it withholds. It knows nothing of what became of its body, and nothing of how long it has been dead.
No lapse of years prevents the casting, so long as the thing you touch went into the water with the body. A creature can be questioned by this spell once only, ever, by any caster; afterwards the water gives nothing.
While the spell lasts, water runs from the thing that answers, about a pint to each answer. It stands where it falls and does not dry for a day.
