Wondrous item, rare
The movement has 3 windings and regains all of them at dawn. Winding it is an action; it then runs for 11 minutes and cannot be muffled, stopped, or set to run slow. The sound it makes is the sound of water in a basin, and carries as far.
While it runs, it counts. When it stops, the first dial reads the number of separate creatures that saw the figure while it ran — including creatures that were invisible, hidden, disguised, or watching from outside the room, through a window, or by any scrying sensor. The second dial reads the number of separate occasions on which it was seen.
The count is exact and it is useless as evidence: it does not say who, or where, or when in the eleven minutes. It counts reflections in a glass as watchers. It counts painted eyes. It has, on one occasion in this hall, counted seven when six persons stood in the room, and the movement was afterwards found clean and complete.
