Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)
The atlas covers this city, its roads inland, and the country of the staple, some two hundred miles about. While you are attuned and have studied a chart for 10 minutes, you cannot become lost while following a way drawn upon that chart, and you have Advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks made within the country it covers.
The charts correct themselves. Left open overnight in a place the atlas covers, the sheet for that place takes in whatever has changed there — a channel silted, a road carried away, a wall thrown down, a house built — drawn in the engraver's line and in the engraver's ink. Nothing appears upon a sheet that is not on the ground.
Six sheets are wanting a city, and the atlas keeps them wanting. While you are attuned you cannot say, write, or set down the name of that city. You know that you know it; your mouth makes some other word; ink laid on paper for it dries blank. You can read the name when another has written it, and you cannot repeat it.
A place you cannot name, you cannot find. Travel to the scraped place by the atlas's own roads and the roads are true and the place is not upon them. Parties so directed have come out on the far side in the time the distance requires. They can account for the days. They cannot account for the ground.
Ending your attunement returns the name to you within the hour. It does not return it to the paper.
