Wondrous item, uncommon
Once per day, as an action, you can press the cartouche of the ring into warm wax, soft lead, or clay. The impression is a notice of death for one creature you name whose death you saw with your own eyes: the name, the day, and the hour, in a small clear script. The impression cannot be altered, scraped, or copied, and the offices, courts, and burial grounds of this city receive it as an attestation without further proof.
The ring will not take an impression for a death you did not see, and cannot be made to. It will not attest a death that is not a death, whatever the papers of the case say.
While you wear the ring you know, of any dead body you touch, how many days it has been dead, to the day. You learn nothing of the cause and nothing of the name.
The field kept for its maker's own date is blank, and no impression the ring has ever made carries anything in that field.
